Workshop Speltherapie met Michael Behr Interaction in Play-Therapy - A Theory-based Concept “Interactive Resonance” for Non-verbal Communication through Play and Toys. This course will be of interest to those who already work with children and young people and who want to integrate and develop Person-Centred theory into their practice. Within the course, Michael will shortly explore Person-Centred concepts of the development of self and relate this theory to new infant research as well as attachment theory. The work of D.Stern and his theory of an interactive self will be explored in relation to the enrichment of Person-Centred theory of personality development. V.Axline’s work, D.Stern’s work and the meaning of play with children will highlight the concept of interactive resonance. Michael will always clarify concepts through demonstration within the group. Participants are invited to bring toys of any kind so that, within the course, virtual play therapy rooms can be constructed. Different modes of play will be demonstrated In the play-room the child should have space and positive support for self exploration. Furthermore, the experience of a person-centered interaction within the process of playing with the therapist is a very powerful experience. In this process, the adult responds to the actions of the child through his own play-action without getting too far ahead (directive) or too far behind the child (laissez faire). What do authenticity, positive regard and empathy mean, when the language of the child is acting with toys and playing with the adult? The workshop is experiential in nature and participants are invited to practice play-interaction skills.
Educational Objectives Participants on the workshop will learn: 1. To implement the basic principles of interactive resonance in their practice with children and young people. 2. To react to children’s behaviour on the level of own play action in a vivid but non intrusive and non directed way. 3. To understand the process of interaction with children and young people and to look at problems on the level of interpersonal relationship.
